I watch from the corner of my eye as she walks off with Mayra, and I can already tell that the friendship isn’t going to work. Tucker can’t keep his eyes off Tini and I know Mayra notices. It’s not my place to push them together. I may be privy to a lot more stuff than them, being that this happened to us before, but I won’t be the one to say a word. That is something they’ll have to figure out themselves. I go back to talking to Tucker, there’s something he needs to know. “I did something.”

“What?”

“I gave up my license.”

Tucker’s eyes widen. “You did what?” he yells. Luckily, the music covers his yelling. “Why?”

I place my elbow on the table and stare at anything but Tucker’s face.

“You’re doing it because of Tini, aren’t you? It’s that serious that you’d give up your license just to be with her?” he asks.

I look his way and shrug my shoulders. “My license can’t make me feel, Tuck. It can’t make me want to give things up for something, or rather, someone I’ve been searching for, for as long as I can remember. Have you ever looked into someone’s eyes and that was it? You don’t even fucking speak to each other but you know what the fuck they’re saying? My license doesn’t mean shit to me if it means giving her up.”

Tucker nods. “Yeah,” he answers. His brows furrow for a moment and a guilt-stricken expression transforms his face. As if Tucker realizes it, he looks away and gazes at the crowd. “When did you know?”

“Know what?”

“That you’d give it all up for her? That she was more important than the things that the world offers you?”

“The moment I found her in the streets and she made me realize I give more than just a simple fuck. I drove around like a mad man looking for this girl. My heart was racing, and I did like what, three sessions with this girl? I didn’t even get the chance to fully diagnose her myself, but instead, I cared. Deeply. I haven’t cared about a woman for a very long time, Tuck. The last time I cared, shit went south, but I feel like either way, I would’ve met Tini. She was meant to be in our lives even if people will judge it.” I’ve definitely said too much.

Tucker tilts his head. “What does that even mean? Judge what? The fact that she was your patient?”

“The funny thing about that is, people will think oh, he has power over her, he’s taking advantage of her, but they don’t realize something. That little tiny person has all the power in the palm of her hand. She has so much power that she’s able to get someone like me to give a fuck.
